Doha is firming up its position as a perfect wedding destination and is all set to host a grand Indian wedding.

The first-of-its-kind wedding will be held at the Ritz-Carlton Doha where over 1,000 guests from all over the world are expected to arrive to attend the ceremony to be held from March 11 to 13.

The bride and groom belong to prominent Indian families and were looking for a destination with a difference to host their dream wedding.

After a vigorous search, Qatar with its ultra-luxe accommodation options, vibrant culture and incredible hospitality was chosen over other GCC countries.

And visa-free entry for Indians into Qatar is one of the reasons for the Indian couple to choose Doha as the venue for their wedding.

The Ritz-Carlton Doha, a sprawling beachfront resort hotel with newly-renovated rooms has been fully booked for the wedding. Indian weddings are known to be enormous spectacles with festivities that go on for days and are memorable affairs not just for the couple and their families but also the guests.

For the Qatar wedding, prominent Indian names from the world of high-end luxury weddings have been roped in.  Luxury wedding planners Divinity Weddings, famed decor designer Heena Patel of Amaahyaaj in Vadodara, and Mumbai’s prominent gourmet vegetarian catering company Popular Caterers will be working hand-in-hand with the Ritz-Carlton Doha teams for the three-day spectacle.

“We made first contact with the wedding parties 12 months ago and started serious planning 10 months back. The first meeting with the fathers of the bride and the groom took over 11 hours which is quite a record for us. Over 1,000 guests are expected to attend the three-day celebrations. They will get to experience the newly-renovated rooms, suites, Club Lounge and Spa as well as the bespoke service. All of our service professionals will provide the legendary Ritz Carlton experience and instill genuine care and comfort that we are recognised for,” said Ritz-Carlton Doha General Manager Erden Kendigelen at a press conference.

“Our ultimate goal is to promote our destination and showcase the proud Qatari heritage while our guests experience a memorable, unique and unforgettable comfort that will stay with them forever,” Kendigelen added.

Kendigelen disclosed that two containers full of wedding preparation items, including special utensils to cook the specialised Indian cuisine as well as décor items have arrived from India.

The hotel staff have been prepping the hotel for months to get it ready for the extravagant wedding and to cater to the prominent guest list.

Famed Indian pop band Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are expected to perform during Day 2 of the festivities. “The wedding is being held with the cooperation of the Qatar Tourism Authority, Qatar Airways, the Indian Ambassador to Qatar and the government.

One of the major factors for them to select Qatar as the venue for their luxury wedding is the decision by the Qatar government to waive entry visa requirements for 80 countries, one of which is India, from where the maximum number of guests is expected.

Qatar Airways has also increased their destinations and that has also played a major factor in us hosting the event – a traditional Indian wedding with Arabian elements,” Kendigelen added.
