Hosts for World Cup 2022, Qatar made a flying start to their AFC Asian Cup 2019 campaign with a resounding 2-0 win over Lebanon in the Group E opener in Al Ain, UAE, on Wednesday.
Once, Qatar overcame a nervy start but coach Felix Sanchez's second half introduction of 2018 AFC Asian Player of the Year Abdelkarim Hassan brought more attacking bites to the maroon brigade.
Second half strikes from Basham Hisham (65th) and Almoez Ali (79th) saw Qatar clinch their first win overseas in Asian Cup since 1984.
Sanchez's men are now second in Group E with three points.
Lebanon's early delight of having broken the deadlock was cut short after the referee ruled out the strike for a foul in the first half. The Lebanese are making their first appearance in the tournament since 2000.
