To diversifying energy sources for transportation in Qatar and contribute to reducing carbon emissions by 17 percent by 2022, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by the National Programme for rationalisation and energy efficiency, inaugurated the eight station for charging electric cars. It was installed in cooperation with Siemens Qatar at the headquarters of the Qatari Scientific Club in Mesaimeer.
The launch is a continuation of the first phase of the launch of electric vehicle charging stations in Qatar as part of the green vehicle initiative to provide a clean, healthy and safe environment for future generations.
This initiative is also in line with Rationalization Targets to reduce carbon emissions by 7% of the total target of 17% across all sectors in Qatar by 2022 according to the Second National Strategy 2018-2022.
Eng. Abdul Aziz al Hammadi, Director of Kahramaa Energy Conservation and Efficiency Department, said the station “is a continuation of the efforts of the institution represented in the national program to rationalize the preparation of the necessary infrastructure for the electric vehicles in the country where it is planned to reach 400 stations in cooperation with the private sector by the end of 2022. 
It comes also in the Framework for the Promotion of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles in the State of Qatar.
The Qatar Science Club was chosen as a youth initiative that encourages the innovation and acquisition of new technologies in Qatar for tomorrow's generation of young inventors. "
Fatima al Mohannadi, Managing Director of Qatar Science Club, said, “The club is one of the first to support this positive phenomenon. In the belief of the importance of these stations and the importance of cooperation between the various bodies in the State in order to preserve the environment.
As it is time to take serious practical steps to reduce the emissions that lead to the aggravation of global warming and the State of Qatar from the leading countries in this area through the enactment of laws and legislation are implemented in order to make the national environment a healthy environment in line with the recommendations adopted by international organizations Environment ".
It is worth mentioning that KAHRAMAA has launched seven electric car charging stations in 2018 in the following areas: KAHRAMAA Main Building, KAHRAMAA Awareness Park Building, AL Fardan Towers, St. Regis Hotel and the Kempinski Pearl Resort.
In addition, two electric power stations for buses have been inaugurated Mowasalat headquarters. Two power plants will be inaugurated at Qatar Foundation.
