Qatar's total confirmed coronavirus cases jumped by 54 to 835 on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
Some of the new cases are linked to people who have either recently returned to Qatar from overseas or had had contact with those infected with the virus. All new cases are in quarantine with proper medical care.
Meanwhile, nine people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours to take the total to 71.
More than 89 percent of the confirmed coronavirus cases in Qatar are mild, Supreme Committee for Crisis Management Spokesperson HE Lolwah Rashid al Khater said in a press conference on Wednesday.
Only 3 percent of the cases are serious, she said. Currently, 37 people are in the COVID-19 intensive care units, while 12 have been discharged, Khater added.
Of the total cases, 8 percent have recovered.
Providing the gender-wise data among the infected, Khater said among the nationals tested positive, 47 are women and 65 are men. Among the non-Qataris, 48 are women and 685 are men.
Breaking the statistics age-wise, she said:
- 3% aged above 64 years 
- 10% in between 55 and 64 years
- 18% aged 45-54 years
- 25% aged 35-44 years
- 31% aged 25-34 years
- 12% aged 15-24 years
