By the end of April, Qatar’s hospital capacity to deal with COVID-19 cases will jump to 14,000, significantly strengthening one of the four arms of the national strategy to combat coronavirus.
According to the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al Kuwari, Qatar is pursuing a four-pronged healthcare strategy to beat the virus.
Raising awareness, prolific testing, tracing transmission chains and increasing hospital capacity form those four pillars, Dr Kuwari said in a series of short videos posted on the Ministry of Public Health’s Twitter handle.
As regards hospital capacity building, the minister said five medical facilities have been allocated to exclusively treat patients with coronavirus infection. By the end of April, the combined bed-capacity of these hospitals will rise to 14,000, she added.
“These hospitals provide the highest levels of healthcare to the patients.”
Although it was too early to predict when a decline in the daily confirmed COVID-19 cases can be seen, the minister said adherence to preventive measures would help the national healthcare system to prevail over the virus as soon as possible.
The minister also expressed her gratitude to the healthcare cadres on the frontline in the fight against the pandemic.
