| | | | Yemen´s ´Aborted´ Revolution |
TOYemenis,
violence in the streets and threats of state collapse are nothing
new. Despite reports portraying the protests in Yemen as something
of a revolution, democratic change has little possibility of
success. President Ali Abdullah Saleh is essentially a figurehead;
whether he stays or goes, the regime of technocrats and thugs
he represents is unlikely. |

| | NO PLACE FOR VIOLENCE IN
DEMOCRACY: NIGERIAN EXPATS |
With
the results of the first round of voting
in Nigeria trickling in, it seems the
ruling party is set to see its parliamentary
majority dwindle. The poll, which is
being held in three rounds, has witnessed
much violence with 11 people being killed
in a bomb explosion on Saturday itself.
Many poll pundits believe that the election
is likely to be a close call, and that
is the reason why parties are using
all tactics to clinch the issue. Qatar
Tribune reporters Victor Bolorunduro,
Opadijo Jelili and Ikoli Victor talked
to some Nigerian expatriates in Qatar
to ascertain their views on the ongoing
democratic exercise. Excerpts: POLLS
MUST BE CREDIBLE Qasim... |
