Nass, Kara clinch victories in InterCon squash

TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK DOHA

KHALID al Nass and Salah Kara secured two wins each to move up in the Men’s Level B and A categories at the InterContinental Squash Tournament.

At the InterContinental Doha courts, Nass entered the quarterfinals of the Level B, when he downed Nana Aziz 11-9 11-6 11-6 after a tough opening game.

Nass won his opening-round match in the Level A category by beating David Michael in straight games. Nass won the match by 11-5 11-8 11-5.

Salah Kara also progressed in both the categories but needed to sweat out a bit in the Level B clash against Saied Omeira.

Kara won the first two games at 7 and 8. But Omeira cut down the margin as he bagged the third game at four. But Cara had enough craft and strength to win the fourth game and the match.

Kara was a relatively easy winner against Malik Tasneem, taking the match in straight games to move into the second round of the Level A class.

In the women’s section, some interesting matches took place.

Noor Zeiad emerged as the winner in the toughest match. She even dropped a game but managed to win by 11-7 11-9 8-11 11-5.

Laura Kheyl and Umama Shahid needed to work harder than others to book their places in the second round. Shahid got the better of Mayar al Saka by 11- 9 11-7 11-2.

In the men’s Level A, Syed Azlan ousted qualifier Cris Jones in four games. Brian Majocha, another qualifiier, advanced with a gritty four-game victory against Ahmed Noor Eldin. Both were tied at two-each but Majocha pulled clear with steady rallies and tight returns.
