A life wasted
THIS is in reference to your opinion page article,”A Life Wasted” on April 1, 2012. It was, indeed, heartrending to read.
Being carried away by a protest speech to express the Tibetans’ resentment to the Chinese President’s visit to India, Jhampel, a Tibetan, took the extreme decision to set himself on fire. Though this may be the cause for his selfimmolation as per the reports in the media, there may be other reasons.
This is because without having petrol or kerosene and a match box in hand, it would not have been possible for him to immolate himself.
Why didn’t those standing near him prevent him from it? Did they think that he should do it on behalf of the protesters? There are the questions which remain unanswered.
The innocent and humble Tibetans should not kill themselves in order to display their anger against the Chinese Government.
