Indian duo to exhibit paintings on May 3

SANTHOSH CHANDRAN

DOHA A PAINTING exhibition by Indian painters Chaitra Somanath and Seetha Menon will be launched at Hotel Merweb in Al Sadd on May 3
The three-day painting exhibition- cum-sale will be inaugurated by Mubarak bin Nasser al Khalifa, secretary-general at ministry of culture, arts and heritage. India’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa will be the chief guest.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Seetha said that the paintings at the exhibition will showcase the natural beauty of south Indian villages and the lives of the inhabitants.

Chaitra, a self-taught painter, who will exhibit her artworks for the first time in Doha said, “Art is, unquestionably, one of the purest forms of happiness.

It trains the mind through the eyes and the eyes through the mind. The exhibition will provide an opportunity for us to interact with other artists in Qatar. Paintings give us great joy. Our passion for painting inspired us to organise such an event in Doha.” The paintings in acrylic on canvas, oil paint and water colour will also reflect the different schools of artworks which painters in India usually follow.

The painting expo will conclude on May 5. The opening ceremony will be attended by Indian community leaders and various artists from Doha.
