BJP to seek debate on Hindus’ plight in Pakistan
IANS
NEW DELHI THE Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday said it will seek a detailed discussion in both houses of parliament on the plight of Hindu minorities in Pakistan.
Talking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, party spokesperson Sayed Shahnawaz Hussain said notices in both houses will be given to take up the issue.
“The Hindus in Pakistan have no rights to practice their religion, or culture.
They have no security. The issue was discussed at length in the parliamentary party meeting. BJP wants to take up the issue in both houses,” he said.
Asked if this will be interference in the affairs of a sovereign nation, the BJP leader said that when India can take up the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils, why should it not take up the issues of Hindus in Pakistan.
Senior party leader Murli Manohar Joshi had on Thursday raised the issue in Lok Sabha, asking the government to intervene.
Home Minister P Chidambaram responded to the forceful plea by Joshi during Zero Hour in the lower house by saying that the matter required a detailed response and he would only make a statement in the house after consulting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Foreign Minister SM Krishna.
