phase of IUG reconstruction | AL FAKHOORA, an initiative
of Qatar Foundation for
helping the cause of education
and health in Gaza, has
completed the first phase of
reconstruction of the Islamic
University of Gaza (IUG).
This will enable the university´s
faculty of medicine
with two additional floors
that include rooms for workshop,
a medical library, clinical
and nursing skill labs,
telepathology and histopathology
labs, a pathology
museum and optics labs.
Farooq Burney, director of
Al Fakhoora, who attended
the inauguration programme
in Gaza, met with staff members
and students at IUG.

LEADING transplant surgeon
Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, who is
widely considered to be one of the
most experienced practitioners of the
Ross procedure (pulmonary autograft)
in the world, will for the first
time perform the procedure in Qatar
on Monday.
He will join a team of paediatric cardiac
surgeons from the Hamad
Medical Corporation (HMC) to operate
on a 12-year-old Yemeni patient at
the HMC´s Heart Hospital.
The operation entails replacing a
person´s diseased aortic valve with
their own pulmonary valve, and in
turn replacing that pulmonary valve
with a homograft (a valve taken from
