| | DPS-MIS students shine at UN meet in New York | | DOHA TWELVE students of DPSModern Indian School (DPSMIS) took part in the 13th annual Global Classrooms International Model United Nations Conference in New York recently. They were accompanied by the school's MUN Director Marie Luthra.
The conference brought together 2,400 high school students from around the world to discuss diverse and pressing international issues at the United Nations headquarters.
The students represented Iraq in six committees (IAEA, Earth Summit, IMF, UNESCO, GA1 and GA6) and debated issues such as the effects of atomic radiation, sustainable development, multilingualism, debt sustainability and criminal accountability of UN officials and experts on missions.
The students were Nidhi Priya and Sandeep Krishnakumar (Class 12); Atrayee Mukherjee, Saurabh Kadam, Krupa Modi, Anjas Kapur, Sonali Tiwari, Vatsal Patel, Kamalika Rai, Sabari Ram, Farah Khan and Rajvardhan Singh (Class 11).
Krupa and Anjas, and Farah and Rajvardhan received the honourable mention award in Earth Summit and IAEA committees respectively.
| | | PEC students demonstrate acting skills | | DOHA THE Pakistan Education Centre (PEC) organised a colourful drama festival in its premises in Mesaimeer area recently.
Students of all the wings participated in the event.
Malik M Farooq, deputy head of mission at the Pakistan embassy attended the function as the chief guest.
The evening started with a beautiful performance by the students of KG Wing featuring an English story Goldilocks and the three bears followed by an Urdu poem Piyasa Kawa (a thirsty crow) to show that God helps those who help themselves.
Later, students of the junior wing beautifully staged an English play titled The Haunted House with a theme that a man can fight against everything with courage and determination.
The Urdu drama presented by the girls' wing titled Zewar Ka Dabba (A Jewellery Box) conveyed the message that evil tries to overcome an honest man but yet goodness wins, resulting in some reward as well.
The Seed came up next. It was a short English play marvellously performed by the boys' wing, conveying the message that honesty is the best policy in life.
... | | | Students join 'no tobacco' campaign at Bhavans | | DOHA BHAVANS Public School organised a 'No Tobacco' campaign recently. The event was held to mark the 'No Tobacco Day', and was supported by Supreme Council of Health in Qatar.
The campaign involved students, teachers besides non-teaching staff members.
Literature highlighting the harmful effects of various forms of tobacco was distributed to the students and staff members.
School President Saleem Ponnambath inaugurated the session and shared his own experience "on the harmful effect on health of smoking." "As an ideal", he urged the students to take up the responsibility of spreading the message against harmful effects of tobacco among family members, friends and, more importantly, to practise abstinence from tobacco.
Dr G Manulal, school principal, also spoke on the theme of the event and advised students to take the message to their homes and the wider community.
Students took part in essay writing competition and an interactive quiz on the subject.
