AS part of the Qatar National Day celebration, the Organizing Committee of the Associated Activities of Qatar National Day 2017 Celebrations, in association with Ministry of Interior (MoI), will hold mega cultural and sports events in collaboration with Asian expatriate communities, schools and companies on December 18, 2017, from 2.40pm to 10pm.
This was announced by Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa al Muftah, director of Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) during a press conference in Doha on Tuesday.
Brigadier Ali Khujaim al Azbi, director of Establishments and Authorities Security Department at the ministry, also attended the conference along with Abdullah Muhammed Fahed al Hajeri, general coordinator of 'Mawater' and Muhammed al Jundi, spokesman of 'Batabet' centre as well as Asian community leaders, school representatives and media persons.
The participating communities are Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Filipino, Indonesian and Malaysian.
Muftah said that the community cultural events would enable families and other community members enjoy the National Day festive moments.
Hajeri said that the Mawater team would take part with 50 classic cars in the festivities in all venues in Doha starting from Labour City up to Barwa Al Baraha in Doha Industrial area.
Jundi said 'Batabet' centre under the Ministry of Culture and Sports would participate in the event with 55 motorbikes starting from Labour City and ending at Barwa Al Baraha.
A range of cultural events and art competitions will be organised in six venues - Asian Town, Labour City and Barwa Al Baraha in Doha Industrial Area, Wakra Sports Club, Rayyan Sports Club and Barwa Workers' Recreation Complex in Al Khor as well as an international cricket tournament in Asian Town cricket stadium.
The Wakra Sports Club will host shows, march-pasts and cultural performances by students of MES Indian School, Pakistan International School, Bhavans Public School, DPS Modern Indian School, Pak Shama School and Shantiniketan School.
A musical concert by Pakistani artistes will be staged at the venue from 6pm to 9pm. Musicians and performers include Rauf Lala, Karan Khan, Nilo, Deeba Kiran, Laila Nihal, Shama Adil, Soukat Mehmood, Kashmal, Shahid Ali Khan, Bul Bul, Attaullah, Gullai and Khan Zeb. The Harley Davidson Riders will also display their shows in the venue.
Barwa Al Baraha and Labour City in Doha Industrial Area will host cultural shows and performances by Bangladeshi, Sri Lankan, Indian and Nepalese community teams and artistes from different companies in addition to musical performance by orchestra team.
The classic car show of Mawater team and bike show of Harley Davidson Riders at the venue will attract many more public to the event. In addition to this, the Kerala Muslim Cultural Center (ICC) will display several traditional and cultural programmes from 2.40pm to 3:40pm and from 3:45pm the jockeys of Malayalam radio 98.6 will host a cultural fiesta until 4:10pm. The cultural shows of the communities' teams and orchestra will start from 4pm.
Asian Town in Industrial Area will host march-pasts, shows and cultural events of students from Ideal Indian School, Noble International School, Sri Lankan Stafford School, Bangladesh MHM School and Rajagiri School.
The Cricket Stadium in Asian Town will host a mega cricket tournament with the participation of international players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India on Monday, December 18.
The players include Misbah-ul-Haq, Umer Gul, Wahab Riaz, Salman Butt, Abdul Razzaq and Fawad Alam from Pakistan, Dilhara Fernando and Jeevan Mendis from Sri Lanka, Elias Sunny and Ashraful from Bangladesh and Lakshmipathy Balaji and Badrinath from India.
Rayyan Sports Club will host cultural shows of Filipino, Indonesian and Malaysian community teams along with march-pasts and performances by students from Philippines International School Qatar, Philippines School Doha, Doha Modern Indian School, Olive School and Qatar Institute for Speech and Hearing. There will be classic car show of Mawater team and bike show of Harley Davidson Riders at the venue.
The Barwa Workers' Recreation Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area will host cultural shows and performances by Bangladeshi, Nepalese and Al Khor community teams and artistes from different companies. The Harley Davidson Riders will display their bikes at the venue.
