Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani unveiled the outcomes of the comprehensive urban plan of Qatar at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment's (MME) headquarters on Tuesday.
The rapid economic expansion and urbanisation in Qatar led the government to develop a framework to manage and guide the future growth of the country. The vision of this plan is to create a role model for sustainable urban living.
"The comprehensive urban plan came after years of sincere efforts by the people involved in the plan in cooperation with partners in various institutions and government bodies," Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rumaihi said.
The rapid urban growth and the associated challenges prompted the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to work hard to meet the needs of society as per the set policies and plans prepared for the benefit of the state and society, he said.
The MME has allocated lands to various sectors in the country, including industrial, economic and logistic zones, a range of central markets, agricultural complexes and livestock markets, educational and health services and housing for workers.
He said the outcomes of this plan resulted in the national development framework document, spatial development plans for municipalities and the creation of urban development centers based on public transport, which would support the state economy and directing investors towards the best places for development.
Rumaihi announced the launch of a programme on land use and its planning requirements to enable the owner to recognise the use of his land and its planning requirements, for the first time in Qatar. This aims to promote the principle of transparency.
