THE Public Works Authority (Ashghal) will temporarily close Al Shamal Road for a couple of hours overnight for a distance of 1.5 kilometres between Al Gharrafa (Passport) Intersection and Umm Lekhba (Landmark) Intersection from Thursday, January 11.
The closure will last for a short period of six nights till Tuesday, January 16, 2018.
The diversion, which is aimed at facilitating installation of a new bridge between Al Gharrafa and Madinat Khalifa North, will start at 12:30am on Thursday and end at 4:30am on the same day, and to continue on Friday from 2am to 9am.
The closure will continue for the following four nights from Saturday to Tuesday from 12:30am to 4:30am each night.
The traffic change will require the closure of Al Shamal Road carriageway and service roads in each direction along with Passport Intersection Bridge.
Traffic leading to Doha and Al Shamal on Passport Intersection Roundabout will also be diverted while other exits of the roundabout leading from and to Khalifa Street and Doha will be opened.
Motorists commuting from Doha to Al Shamal will be required to take right at Passport Intersection on to Khalifa Street, turn left at Al Markhiya Intersection towards Arab League Street, then join Al Markhiya Street by taking left at the next Dahl Al Hamam Intersection towards Landmark Intersection underpass and take right towards Al Shamal Road.
Motorists coming from Al Shamal to Doha will have to take left onto Landmark Intersection underpass towards Al Markhiya Street, turn right at the next Dahl Al Hamam Intersection towards Al Markhiya Intersection on Khalifa Street, then turn right towards the Passport Intersection and take the third exit of the roundabout towards Doha.
Ashghal will instal road signs to guide motorists about the new road layout. The Public Works Authority has requested all road users to abide by the new speed limit and follow the road signs to ensure their safety.
