The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state public transport company Mowasalat (Karwa) for the utilisation of vacant plots allocated for non-commercial purpose.
According to the MoU, Mowasalat (Karwa) will plan appropriately to provide land for the private sector taxi operators.
The public transport sector, including taxi services, plays a key role in providing mobility to citizens, residents and visitors.
The government is allocating the lands to be developed by the taxi franchise companies for use in their operations and staff accommodation purposes. The ministry's representive HE Hassan al Hail and Mowasalat-Karwa Chairman Nasser al Malki signed the MoU.
MoTC is enhancing its support to taxi operators by allocating land to promote higher service levels. More than 3,500 taxis are now operated by private companies and Karwa in the country. The ministry is planning to increase that number to 7,000 over the next few years.
