Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha(SSLSD) celebrated Thai Pongal a four-day harvest festival dedicated to nature recently. The feast is a significant event observed in Sri Lanka and India. It is celebrated to appreciate the Sun and farmers for a bountiful harvest.
The celebration commenced with the boiling of the 'first rice of the season'. The event comprised colourful performances and speeches. These included the 'Muruga Gauthuvam' performance by the guest dance troupe from Abinaya School of Fine Arts as well as cultural dances by the SSLSD students and parents.
A special item in the event was a musical performance by the principal with teachers and students.
A Kolam competition was also held on the occasion where friends and families gathered to decorate the grounds with colourful images.
