There is some good news for Ethiopians staying in Qatar! An Ethiopian Community International School offering Ethiopian curriculum with international standards will be established in Qatar this year.
The school, which will be affordable to all, will not only welcome students from Ethiopia but also from other countries since the language of communication will be English.
For years, many Ethiopians are forced to take their children back home due to lack of affordable schools for them.
During Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn's recent visit to Doha, Qatar gave permission for the establishment of Ethiopian community international school in Doha, Ethiopia's Ambassador to Qatar HE Metasebia Tadesse Woldegiorgis told Qatar Tribune.
"We have started talks with Qatar's Ministry of Education and Higher Education on how to implement the guidance given by the two leaders in this area. The Qatar side has shown its full commitment and support for the mobilisation of the opening of Ethiopian Community School," he said.
The ambassador reiterated that a committee from the Ethiopian community and the embassy has been formed to see the way forward to establishing the school.
"We hope the school will also accept students from other countries. Our plan is not only to serve the Ethiopian community but also other nationals living in Doha," the envoy added.
Ambassador Metasebiasaid,"The school will follow Ethiopian curriculum with internationally-acceptable standard. In case, a student moves from Qatar to Ethiopia or any other countries, he/she should be able to continue with the studies without any problem. In addition, the school will be affordable," he said.

The ambassador said there is a lot in store for the 25,000 Ethiopians living and working in Qatar.
He said that the embassy encourages Ethiopians to upgrade their skills and contribute towards the prosperity of Qatar as well as their own living conditions.
The community is also advised on how to join the business activities while in Qatar and how to integrate back to the community after returning to Ethiopia.
He also said they enlighten the community members about the laws and regulations of Qatar and advise them to adhere to them.
"Our community members are very organised and have close relationship with the embassy. The community members are well-known for their discipline, good manner and hard work. Since most of them are engaged in non-skilled positions, we highly encourage our community members to upgrade their skills and work in semi-skilled and skilled sectors," the ambassador added.
