SPEAKER of the Advisory (Shura) Council HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al Mahmoud met Deputy Speaker of the People's Representative Council of Indonesia Dr Fadli Zon and his accompanying delegation in Doha on Sunday.
They discussed bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and means developing them, especially in the field of parliamentary cooperation. In this regard, the two sides agreed to establish a parliamentary friendship committee.
The meeting also reviewed a number of Islamic issues, and the role of parliaments of Islamic countries in supporting and defending them at international forums.
Dr Zon expressed his understanding of the position of Qatar in the current Gulf crisis that called for a dialogue without preconditions or infringing upon its sovereignty. He also expressed the support of the Indonesian Parliament for the mediation of the Emir of Kuwait HH Sheikh Sabah al Ahmad al Jaber al Sabah to heal the rift between the Gulf states, expressing hope that the crisis will end soon.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker of the Advisory Council HE Mohammed bin Abdullah al Sulaiti, Secretary-General of the Advisory Council HE Fahd bin Mubarak al Khayarin, Indonesia's Ambassador to Qatar HE Muhammad Basri Sidehabi and a number of officials from the Advisory Council.
