When it comes to fan behavior in Philadelphia, local authorities are treating the potential for a riot scene after the NFC Championship Game as a realistic threat.
City and regional authorities began preparing for a destructive scene anticipated in the potential aftermath of a win by the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC title game on Sunday.
The pre-Super Bowl party plan included police meeting with individual business owners and sending warnings via Facebook and posted signage near Lincoln Financial Field.
In a memo from the 15th Police District signed by commissioner Richard Ross Jr., bar owners were discouraged from selling beer in bottles and business that are not open received reminders to"lock grates and please remove anything outside your business trash cans, flower pots, etc."By Sunday, authorities were in the streets applying thick layers of Crisco shortening and cooking lard to light poles, street signs and other stationary objects. The lubricants are designed to make surfaces of the metal poles and facades slick to prevent fans from climbing all structures.
