THE Qatar Postal Services Company (Q-Post) has taken steps to increase security at the main General Post Office (GPO) in response to a video circulating on social media relating to criminal damage to PO Boxes in the main office, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
The statement read,"Qatar Post takes security of all mail items in our care very seriously and recognises the obligations placed upon us while undertaking mail carriage and storage. Our customers rightly trust Qatar Post with their mail."
"We, therefore, take any action that threatens to breach the security of mail or our staff very seriously and accordingly involve the law enforcement agencies to protect our business. Qatar Post will not tolerate any violation of our network. We intend to identify and prosecute offenders."
The Q-Post, however, said the increase in the security arrangement will not affect customers' access to the premises.
"The General Post Office is an iconic and much loved building in Qatar. We do not want to restrict public access and have already taken steps to increase security as a result of this illegal act without adversely affecting our customers. There is a wide network of monitored CCTV cameras, including the area around the PO Boxes. In addition, we have security guards making regular and random patrols in all parts of the building, including the PO Box areas, 24 x 7," the statement added.
The Q-Post said it has instituted a criminal investigation into the incident, adding that it would not make further comments on the issue as the matter is being handled by the relevant authorities for legal actions.
