Mohamed Nadeem triggered a sharp collapse and his three for 12 lifted Qatar to a superb 14-run victory against visiting Uganda in the Twenty20 match, doubling the joy of National Sport Day on Tuesday.
At the Asian Town Cricket Stadium, this was the fifth and concluding match for Uganda, who had beaten Qatar in previous two matches one T20 game and other 50-over-a-side game.
After restricting the home team to a paltry 121 for six through some splendid bowling from Deusdedit Muhumuza (three for 10) and Charles Waiswa (two for 19), Uganda appeared to be cantering towards victory with Riazat Ali Shah and Irfan Sahibzada getting the runs with ease.
At 89, Nadeed had Sahibzada (22 with two fours in 15 balls) holing out to Mohamed Tanveer at deep for the fourth wicket. Still there was no hint of a sudden downfall that was about to unfold as Uganda had moved to 96 for four in 17 overs.
However, Nadeem, off his fourth and final over, removed Riazat (23 in 26 balls) and Frank Nsubuga (0). And in between, Brian Msaba (0) was run out brilliantly.
From a healthy-looking score once, Uganda slumped to 97 for seven. In the next over, Chaudhry sent back Muhumuza, who lifted straight to Tanveer, to make it 98 for eight. In the remaining two overs, Qatar looked better off as they needed two wickets and Uganda required 23 runs.
The hosts picked another wicket through Mohamed Awais and the tourists ended with 107 for nine, falling short of the target by 15 runs.
Earlier, Qatar were rattled badly by Muhumuza and Waiswa. After having lost six wickets for just 49 runs in 10 overs, they bounced back through an unfinished 72-run seventh-wicket stand between Noman Sarvar and Mohamed Rizlan. Sarvar had a boundary in 32-ball 35 not out, while Rizlan smashed two sixes and a four to post 35 not out in 35 balls.
Sarvar was declared the Man of the Match for his all-round contribution (35 not out and one wicket).
