Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rumaihi has instructed all municipalities to strictly implement the new law on public hygiene.
No leniency should be shown to violators, he said while addressing municipal directors, heads of public hygiene departments and other officials.
Terming the hygiene inspectors as the tool to enforce the law, Rumaihi said they have the full authority to penalise violators.
The inspectors should not tolerate any violation they detect, he said, adding that their jurisdictions are not limited to their municipalities but extends across the country.
The minister said a strict enforcement of the law is not aimed at collecting fines, but at checking the violations.
He said raising awareness among the public about the importance of hygiene can go a long way in promoting hygiene and called for the use of different languages to reach out to all sections of the society.
The attention Qatar lays on public hygiene complements the aesthetics of its ongoing urban development plan.
The minister called on municipal directors to follow up on the implementation of the new hygiene law by supervisors and inspectors of the department concerned with each municipality and to ensure their presence in various locations to monitor and control violations.
He also directed leading municipal officials to help their subordinates overcome any obstacles they might face and ensure their proper functioning.
At the meeting, Director of General Cleanliness Department Safar Mubarak al Shafi made a presentation on the new hygiene law and reviewed the violations and penalties included in the law as well as the procedures of reconciliation with violators of public hygiene.
