The Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers Qatar Chapter (PSME Qatar) organised a friendly basketball tournament at Al Arab International Academy recently.
The event was aimed at fostering camaraderie among Filipino mechanical engineers in the country as well as enhancing the athletic skills of members. The activity also served as PSME Qatar's contribution to the Qatar National Sport Day in which residents, including various Filipino community groups, actively participated. It was headed by event committee heads Mark Andrew N Cabaguing, John Leo A Plallon and Herlou S Binghay.
PSME was established in 1952 in Manila to maintain the integrity of Filipino mechanical engineers and to promote excellence in field. The Qatar chapter of PSME was approved on February 21, 2008 and was recognised by the Philippine Embassy Qatar on March 18, 2008.
According to the organisers of the event, PSME's mission is to unite all practitioners to advance the science of mechanical engineering, the allied arts and science, and the related human factors for the benefit of the public.
The society will also provide a venue for its members to participate and contribute in the social, economic and industrial growth of the country, the organisers added.
The group will be marking their 10th anniversary this year and will be hosting a series of events including a seminar on March 16 and its first General Membership Seminar on April 16.
The PSME Qatar Board of Directors include Rene B Cirio (President), Diosdado G Gamayao (Vice-President-Internal), Edgar I Boyano (Vice-President-External), Cherrie May M Desabille (Secretary), Carlos R Bien (Assistant Secretary), Rogelio C De Dios Jr (Treasurer), Herlou S Binghay (Assistant Treasurer), John Leo A Pallon (Business Manager), Edmon E Conanan (Assistant Business Manager), Sherwin D Olimpo (Auditor), Cris V Billiones (Director of Membership, Interest and Development), Dante P Bernales (Director Professional Enhancement), Mark A Banigued (Director, Information and Technology), Mark Andrew N Cabaguing (Director of Sports and Recreation) and Simeon C Gonzales Jr (Director of Codes and Ethics).
The Chapter advisers comprise past presidents Nazario Relente, Petronilo S Cruz, Levi O Valenzuela, Ferdinand C Aves, Bernardo C Romanes, Ronaldo M Dalistan, Perfecto D Aguirre, Virtud R Barraza and Shayed M Mamayog.
