QATAR Foundation (QF) is inviting Qatari nationals and residents aged between 15 and 35 years and who display exemplary moral character to be part of the inaugural Akhlaquna Award.
The Award was introduced by QF Chairperson Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser at the 2017 QF Convocation Ceremony. It is designed to recognise and celebrate young people who have made significant impact on the community through projects that best embodied one or more of the four selected morals of the Akhlaquna initiative namely mercy, tolerance, honesty and generosity.
The winner of the inaugural Akhlaquna Award will be announced during the 2018 QF Convocation Ceremony scheduled on May 1.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative held at the QF headquarters on Saturday, QF President of Community Development Machaille al Naimi said,"Akhlaquna is an example of QF's commitment to inspiring the community and empowering the next generation of leaders in Qatar through recognising the work of those who are actively implementing and spreading great moral values. We encourage all members of the community to get involved in this exciting initiative, which aims to promote universal values such as mercy, tolerance, honesty and generosity. Indeed, at QF we seek to embody local culture and foster social engagement as part of our community development mission area and these values, which effectively underpin the concept of Akhlaquna, are central to our Islamic heritage."
Also present at the launch was QF Community Outreach Director Mohammed Fakhroo and QF Media Relations Officer Alya al Suwaidi.
QF has now begun accepting nominations for the 2018 Akhlaquna Award through its dedicated website www.akhlaquna.qa. According to the guidelines, nominations may include local or international projects with scope that include anything that embodies one or more of the four values of the year. Nominated projects do not need to be based in Qatar and applicants may apply themselves or nominate others, whether individuals or groups. The submission deadline for nominations is March 31.
"The candidates for this award are individuals who have developed projects and initiatives that strive to serve the community. At QF, we are delighted to celebrate these individuals, who personalise the values that distinguish the Prophet (PBUH) and to provide them with the support and guidance they need in order to build a better society," said Fakhroo.
A judging panel has been established to review all nominations and finalists will be shortlisted for public voting through an online platform. The winner of the inaugural Akhlaquna Award will receive mentorship for their initiatives.
The organisers are also encouraging the public to visit the Akhlaquna Award website, or on Facebook at Akhlaquna Qatar; Twitter @akhlaqunaqa; and Instagram @akhlaquna for further details and updates.
