Qatar is well on course to achieve food and fodder security as its efforts towards self-sufficiency in essential items after the unjust blockade imposed on Doha are now paying rich dividends.
The first consignment of green fodder being produced by Qatari agriculturalist Mohamed Mater Aldosari in Sudan will reach Doha within three months.
In an effort to maintain a sustainable supply of fodder after the unjust blockade, an increasing number of Qatari agriculturists have expanded their farms to other friendly countries to boost the supply of vegetables and fruits to their homeland.
Aldosari had started cultivation of animal fodder in a 2,000-hectare farm in Sudan immediately after the blockade.
He said preparations for the harvest are in the final phase.
"First consignment will reach Doha within three months. The consignment of 100 tonnes of fodder will be delivered in Doha every month without any interruption. The product meets all the quality specifications identified by the local authority. It will be an additional boost for dairy in Qatar. The quantity is expected to be 25 to 30 percent of the market share of fodder in Doha," Aldosari told Qatar Tribune.
Aldosari, who is also the director of Aldosari Park & Zoo in Al Shahaniya, said,"Meeting the huge demand of animal fodder in Qatar will be his farm's first priority. The long-term project, being implemented in cooperation with various government departments in Qatar and the government of Sudan, will strengthen the supply chain of animal fodder to Qatar."
Commenting on the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) initiatives to expand the agricultural sector, Aldosari said,"We, the agriculturists, are keeping in touch with the departments concerned for the latest updates on MME initiatives."
Committed to enhancing Qatar's agriculture sector, Aldosari gifts different plant species to students who visit his large farm in Al Shehaniya, a move aimed at making youngsters understand the importance of the country's agriculture sector and local farming.
