The auction of six bespoke jewellery pieces crafted by young Qatari designers at the ongoing 15th Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) on Sunday is expected to draw a huge crowd, AlBahie Auction House Director Jennifer Bishop has said.
Organisers of DJWE have partnered with Doha-based AlBahie Auction House to conduct the charity auction.
"A large number of local and international buyers have already registered for the auction. More are expected to register before the auction begins," Jennifer told Qatar Tribune.
"We are overwhelmed by the enquiries about the auction. We can see there is a big interest in this unique event," she said, adding that the response young Qatari designers have received in the first two days of the DJWE 2018 was very encouraging.
"Pieces of jewellery of young Qatari designers on display at the expo have drawn a lot of attention. People are not only showing interest, but are also buying. The expo has turned out to be hugely successful for local designers," Jennifer said.
Six jewellery pieces named Mirhab, Pipe in Gold, Sleeping Beauty-Al Zubarah Collection, Qatar Al E'zz, Ombres and Qatar will be auctioned.
The starting bid for each piece is QR30,000 and all proceeds from the auction will go to Education Above All (EAA) foundation, she added.
The auction is expected to continue for an hour and each piece will go through bids for 5-7 minutes."We expect all the pieces to attract impressive bids and to be sold at higher prices," Jennifer said.
This is the first time AlBahie is taking part at DJWE through the charity auction to support the six participants of the Young Qatari Designers (YQDs) initiative.
