The Bouzouki, a stringed instrument, is an integral part of Greek music. Traditionally used for dancing and entertainment at social gatherings, the Bouzouki has since gained a wider audience and has become the major popular music instrument of Greece and has even been played in a variety of musical genres throughout the world, including jazz, rock and folk music.
The exceptional music of this Mediterranean country is now brought to Qatar at Mykanos, the award-winning Mediterranean Greek restaurant at InterContinental Doha on March 8. You can dance the night away to the scintillating live music played by the Greek band Bouzouki Duo and guest performer Xristina Kakalianti.
Mykanos is known for its authentic Mediterranean cuisine and guests will be offered a flavourful array of delicious, authentic Greek dishes specially prepared by the Greek culinary team of the restaurant.
The evening will also be an opportunity to experience a traditional Greek customs the plate-smashing ceremony. During the ceremony, with Greek music playing and dancing in progress, plates and glasses are smashed. The plate-smashing, now conducted using plaster of Paris plates, is said to bring good luck.
