Qatar's National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is planning to organise an international event to discuss the unilateral measures being taken against people and develop an international mechanism to deal with this matter, NHRC Chairman HE Dr Ali bin Smaikh al Marri has said.
The NHRC chief's announcement came after he held a series of meetings in Geneva on Thursday.
He said protecting just causes of people is a humanitarian duty that must not be overlooked by international organisations, parliaments and international associations. Marri called on the international community to intervene to address the humanitarian violations resulting from the siege imposed on Qatar. He called on European Parliament to issue a"European and international declaration" prohibiting unilateral arbitrary measures against people and an international mechanism to address such actions. He said there are signs that the blockading countries want to prolong the crisis. (tnn)
