The Indian government has suspended Cambridge Analytica's website in the country after revelations that the British consultancy firm used the personal data of 50 million Facebook users to influence US presidential polls.
The account of Ovleno Business Intelligence (OBL), an affiliate of the British company, was suspended late Wednesday by the Information Technology Ministry and has been unavailable since, a government official said on condition of anonymity.
OBL has said both India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)~and the opposition Indian National Congress were its clients, but both parties denied hiring the company.
India's IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday warned against any attempt to abuse social media for election manipulation in India, adding that Facebook would face legal action if such an attempt was revealed.
