THE 29th Ordinary Arab Summit began in Dhahran on Sunday under the chairmanship of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to discuss means of enhancing joint Arab action and addressing challenges and threats facing the Arab region.
The State of Qatar is taking part in the Summit with a delegation headed by Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League HE Saif bin Muqaddam al Buainain.
The agenda of the Arab Summit includes 18 items dealing with various Arab issues in the political, economic, social, security and other fields, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the Israeli violations in Occupied Jerusalem, following up the political developments of the Palestinian cause, reviving the peace initiative and supporting the State of Palestine's budget and the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in addition to the issue of the occupied Syrian Arab Golan and the solidarity with and support of Lebanon.
The Summit agenda also includes discussing the reports submitted to the Arab Summit, including the report of the previous summit (Jordan) on the activities of the follow-up committee on the implementation of resolutions and commitments, the report of the Secretary-General on joint Arab action, the developments of the Syrian crisis and the situations in Libya and Yemen, in addition to supporting peace and stability in Sudan and supporting Somalia.
Among the items on the agenda is the development of the Arab League, the holding of an Arab cultural summit, the economic and social file in light of the draft decision of the Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, and the date and venue of the next Arab Summit in 2019.
The agenda of the summit also includes the Kingdom of Morocco's request to the Arab Summit for supporting its bid to host the 2026 World Cup and assisting internally displaced persons in the Arab countries, especially displaced Iraqis. (QNA/Dhahran)
