Chinese Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo says he will not sign a long-term deal while the future of Formula One is unclear and has warned current team Red Bull he could easily switch to a rival.
Technology means F1 is constantly evolving and with the motor racing series under new ownership and a new framework for the sport set to be agreed in 2020, the Australian is staying coy.
"I don't want to sign anything too long because I don't know where the sport's going," the 28-year-old told Britain's Times newspaper on Wednesday.
"Ideally I'd sign a two-year contract. I think two years I can definitely be comfortable with and then see it from there."
Despite his surprise success in Shanghai at the weekend, Ricciardo still thinks Red Bull have work to do to convince him to stay with his deal running out at the end of the year.
"I want to be with the best car. I think the weekend proved if I got the opportunity I can pull it off," he was quoted as saying by the BBC.
"If we can win a few more now with Red Bull, that looks very attractive. If not, there's probably other options."
Mercedes and Ferrari may have second driver vacancies from next season.
