Almost 95 percent work on the road network and other projects will be completed in 2019, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) President Dr Eng Saad al Mohannadi has said, adding that road network in the country has increased by more than three times in the past five years since 2013
In a presentation before the Advisory (Shura) Council on Monday, Mohannadi said the length of road network increased from 1,700 km in 2013 to 6,000 km in 2018, while the capacity of sewage has been doubled and rainwater increased seven times.
He pointed out that the roads development projects currently include the first Ring Road and the intersection with the February 22 Road and Umm Al-Dome Street, Al Muaithir Street and Al Shafi Street and other projects in and outside Doha.
He said the sewage projects, which will be completed this year, include the sewage treatment plant in the Industrial Zone (Phase II) and the extension of sewage treatment plant in West Doha.
The projects that have been implemented this year include reclamation of the Al Qarana dump, a surface and groundwater pumping station for the Mesaimeer plant, a major pumping station for the South Doha treatment plant and the industrial processing plant (Phase III).
On new citizens' land project, he said the plan targets 10,400 infrastructure-enabled vouchers for the period between 2017 and 2021. By the end of 2024, the number of land plots used by the citizens will be three times more than the infrastructure used in 2013, he added.
Mohannadi also highlighted projects to reduce rainwater catchments, areas where projects were implemented and buildings projects from schools, hospitals, health centers and kindergartens inside Doha and the external areas.
