All consumer establishments can have extended working hours without prior approvals until the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has announced.
In a statement on Monday, the MEC said hypermarkets, supermarkets and others can remain open 24 hours as part of the ministry's efforts to stimulate the business sectors.
The ministry has urged all consumer complexes to clearly announce the times and dates of work for consumers.
According to the ministry, this trend comes as part of the package of initiatives that were put forward for the holy month of Ramadan under the slogan of"Less than a duty", where all the commercial and consumer establishments are witnessing a heavy rush during the holy month of Ramadan.
Throughout the holy month, shopping malls and retail outlets attract a large number of people during limited working hours.
Given the unique nature of Ramadan when time is divided between praying, working, commuting, and shopping among other preoccupations, the ministry urged shopping malls and retail outlets to extend working hours and inform consumers of the new timings so they can better plan their schedule and choose a convenient time for shopping.
These initiatives were designed to cover all aspects of the ministry's activities in terms of organization, partnership and support and to raise awareness about various consumer and commercial topics.
