The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has detected nine violations in surprise inspections of shops and restaurants carried out in different parts of the country, a statement said on Tuesday. The violations ranged from lack of hygiene to conducting business without a licence.
The infringements also included carrying out business activities not sanctioned in licences, operation on expired licences and other irregularities.
The ministry, the statement said, has mandated the erring shops to make appropriate modifications to their licence, commercial records and functioning method, in keeping with relevant norms.
The MEC's inspection campaigns are aimed at monitoring the commitment of shops and restaurants to adhere to the laws and regulations governing the conduct of commercial activities. It also comes as part of the MEC initiative launched in holy month of Ramadan.
The ministry has intensified the inspection campaigns before and during Ramadan as part of its keenness to regulate and monitor the markets and commercial activities in Qatar.
The ministry has urged all merchants and shopkeepers to adhere to the laws and regulations governing the conduct of commercial activities. It has called on stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the laws and regulations by visiting its website, www.mec.gov.qa, to avoid being exposed to legal liability.
The ministry has also urged citizens and residents to report violations or irregularities related to registration and commercial licences through the ministry's communication channels.
