The shopping outlets in Qatar on Saturday removed all the remaining products made in or distributed by the countries, which have imposed an unjust blockade on Qatar.
The move comes in response to a Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) directive for an immediate removal of all edible and inedible products from Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The ministry said its inspectors would ensure full compliance with the order.
The removal, however, has not left shelves empty as alternatives, either home-grown or imported from friendly nations, have replaced the products taken off. The ministry said the whole process has been executed after proper planning.
A branch manager of an Al Meera store told Qatar Tribune that the supermarket chain has almost removed all products from the blockading countries.
"We have made a list for all the products we are supposed to remove. To replace them, we have more than enough goods, mostly from the local and Turkish markets", he added.
The shoppers QT talked to said they did not face any difficulty in getting any item.
Husam Ahmed, a shopper who was buying grocery at a shopping outlet in the city, said he came to the shop after hearing the news about the MEC decision. There was no shortage of anything, he added.
"Honestly, I am more satisfied with the quality and prices of the new products (those from alternative sources), so the new decision is unlikely to make any difference to my family or others."
