To reduce queues at fuel stations, Qatar Fuel (Woqod) will install 158 more dispensers at its stations across the country this year, its Chief Executive Officer has said.
That is 51 percent jump from the current number of Woqod's fuel dispensers, Saad Rashid al Muhannadi said at an event recently.
Woqod would continue to install more dispensers in 2019 and 2020 at the same pace as it is doing this year, he said, adding that the company would carry out a phased plan to double the efficiency of its new petrol stations.
"Woqod is currently deploying all of its efforts and resources to implement its ambitious plan to double the number of its gas stations within three years to reach 120 by the year 2020," Muhannadi said.
The chief executive said Woqod's fuel station doubling plan for 2020 has also factored in a possible surge in demand within the period, which is not expected to exceed 10 percent.
He said the company expects a 10 percent jump in average yearly jet fuel sales. Woqod, he said, is currently in discussions with HIA and Civil Aviation Authority to improve the storage capacity for jet fuel at HIA. This is to meet the growing demand and to take full advantage of a new pipeline from Ras Laffan, he added.
On the company's bunkering services, Muhannadi said, Woqod is currently performing bunker operations from all Qatari Ports and within Qatari territorial waters based from bunkering facilities at Ras Laffan, owned by Qatar Petroleum.
He said the bunker operations from the facilities started in 2017 in collaboration with Qatar Petroleum, where bunker distribution increased 10 times in comparison with quantities distributed in 2016.
Talking about the company's natural gas business, Muhannadi said Woqod is supplying natural gas to the factories located in the new industrial area.
"Woqod is also operating a station for compressed natural gas (CNG) and collaboration is going on with QP for managing and operating new CNG stations across Qatar as Woqod is managing and distributing the product from a pilot station since 2012," he added.
As for the vehicle inspection centres (Fahes), Muhannadi said construction work for heavy vehicles inspection centre at Al Mazrooaa is currently under way. He said the company is planning to build another centre at Mowate City.
