Several small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Qatar have formed dedicated teams to ensure that their employees adhere to the provisions of the new law on public hygiene.
Besides monitoring offices, work sites, residential buildings and other properties owned by their respective companies for cleanliness 24x7, these teams undertake awareness campaigns to enhance workers' understanding of the new hygiene law.
The law, which came into effect on February 1, proposes a slew of measures to maintain public hygiene, including a ban on drying washed laundry in public view.
Passed by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), the law carries stiff penalties for violation of its provisions. The ministry has also launched a comprehensive media campaign to raise awareness on the law's various provisions and penalties.
A human resource manager of Madeena Engineering said,"We have deployed a special team to inspect work sites and accommodation premises following the implementation of the new hygiene law. We have also distributed brochures containing details of the law as well as penalties for violations."
He said the new law has instilled a new vigour in corporate entities and citizens to do their bit to keep Qatar clean.
A senior official of a construction firm said,"After the new law came into effect, we outsourced the maintenance of our staff-accommodation building, which houses more than 300 employees, to a professional cleaning company. The firm has its own inspection team to monitor the job of their cleaning staff."
The random raids by MME's inspectors keep companies in the Industrial Area on their toes with regard to regular cleanliness and proper maintenance of work sites and staff accommodation buildings.
"We have alerted the employees to give maximum attention to hygiene both at workplace and residence in order to avoid fines for violations. We are using social media groups of our employees to spread awareness about the law," said a manager of a furniture firm.
