Doha-based Filipino designers Celso Collado Dahil and Vhong Taasan led a fashion show held at Wyndham Hotel Westbay on Friday.
Around 200 people supported the programme organised for the benefit of distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). It featured models from different nationalities including Mrs Mexico United Nations Ambassador 2015 Yezenia Navarro who wowed the crowd when she sashayed down the catwalk wearing a Celso-designed wedding dress.
"My creations feature the theme of royalty which appeals to both Filipino and international audience. When I was informed this event was for a good cause, I immediately agreed to be part of this initiative," Celso told Qatar Tribune.
Both Celso and Vhong are popular in the Filipino community for their contributions to the local fashion industry. Their creations have been featured in many events and recognised on different occasions. Together with other Filipino fashion designers based in Qatar, the duo is contributing significantly to the popularisation of Filipino talent in the country.
"I believe there are many talented Filipinos in Qatar in the fashion industry and it is high time we really worked hard to highlight what we can offer. I hope we all unite in the industry and continue to strive for our people to be known internationally," Celso added.
The event was produced by Lea Abo and directed by Felarca Victor. Sponsors were Royale Qatar, Megaworld, Hillside Restaurant, Ganda Beauty Salon, L'Arc En Ciel and DC.
