QATAR Social Work Foundation (QSWF) participated in the consultative meeting of civil society organisations at the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York City.
QSWF presented a working paper on how best to enable civil society organisations to contribute to the development of the work mechanisms of the Council with its various entities.
The paper, which was presented by QSWF's Executive Director of Planning and Development Department Dr Hassan bin Yousuf al Darabasti, proposed organising meetings for consultants in parallel with the meetings in New York and Geneva, as well as using social media to raise awareness about effective participation in meetings.
The paper showed how best to participate in United Nations mechanisms for those with consultative status by promoting dialogue and building alliances on United Nations issues, providing technical advice and participating in policy development, as well as participating in meetings consistently and effectively.
The Qatari paper also showcased the experience of the civil society organisations in serving the target populations based on"people are at the centre of sustainable development" and that the institution's vision is to shift from dependence and marginalisation to empowerment.
It further stressed the possibility of mobilising the capacities of civil society and creating effective local, regional and international fronts to achieve remarkable successes.
The QSWF received consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council in July 2017.
