The opening of the Institute of Criminal Studies and Specialised Prosecution, affiliated to the Public Prosecution, reflects the support of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani for the independence of judiciary and promotion of the rule of law, Attorney-General HE Dr Ali bin Fetais al Marri has said.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony, the Attorney-General (A-G) praised the great support the state provides to the judiciary at all levels, including buildings, rehabilitation, training, laws and legislation, and everything that guarantees independence of the judiciary.
He highlighted the role of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani in achieving harmony between the executive and judicial authorities.
"The Institute of Criminal Studies is a specialised institution that will facilitate the study of criminal science to prepare the staff of the Public Prosecution through continuous training and workshops throughout the year," Marri said, adding that the institute will include a statistical centre that provides accurate statistics on the number of crimes, their types and causes, in addition to helping in developing scientific solutions to them.
He said Qatar has the lowest rate of crime and it's among the safest countries in the world.
"This institute will help Qatar take a quantum leap in reducing the crime rate," he said, adding that Qatari doctors, professors, and experts are working in the institute in cooperation with experts from different countries of the world and innovative specialists around the world.
Marri said the necessity for the prosecution of cybercrime has increased, especially after the hacking of Qatar News Agency (QNA). He said confronting such crimes has now become imperative and Qatar is cooperating with major countries in this regard.

Qatar will produce specialists in the fight against these crimes, whether electronic, economic or money laundering and terrorism, he added.
The Attorney General said the issues of money laundering and economic crimes have become complex and are linked with terrorism. He stressed on the importance of having local expertise and specialist prosecutors to meet the challenges, especially the issues of money laundering, economic and electronic crimes are developing terribly.
Marri noted the great cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior, Qatar Central Bank and the Public Prosecution in relation to cybercrime, money laundering and economic crimes.
He said Qatar has many agreements with most of the countries which are obliged to provide necessary information and support in such cases.
In response to a question about the piracy of beIN Sports media group, the Attorney-General said,"No matter how long or short, beIN Sports rights will be restored. These rights have been abused and piracy is unacceptable and illegal, which is punishable by law." He said beIN Sports' case is still open against those who have decriminalised it and that the investigation involves several suspects.
He said that"others" should know that the world is not a jungle. It is governed by strict laws, especially with respect to intellectual property rights, which are governed by a strict law protected and enjoyed by beIN Sports, he added.
Regarding the Compensation Claims Committee, he said the committee was headed by the Public Prosecution until it completed its first phase related to gathering information and preparing files.
According to the nature of the panel's work, the next stage will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani, as it will be done at the global level.
