Aryna Sabalenka eliminated defending Eastbourne champion Karolina Pliskova in a remarkable turnaround as she fought back to enter the semi-finals of the Eastbourne International 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) on Thursday.
Sabalenka was staring at defeat but managed to stun the Czech second seed having trailed 4-1 in the decisive third set.
In the men's draw, Britain's second seed Kyle Edmund vented his frustrations at tournament officials as he lost 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 to Kazakh Mikhail Kukushkin.
It was a frustrating end for Edmund who had previously ended the tournament for Andy Murray; the two-time Wimbledon champion is trying to regain sharpness before deciding whether to play the grass court slam next week.
The 26-year-old Pliskova dropped the first set after impressive groundstrokes from Sabalenka, who is six years Pliskova's junior and ranked 45th in the world.
Pliskova, who is the world number seven, looked vulnerable on her usually solid serve. Even when she gained the second set and built momentum in the third, Sabalenka stormed back in the rallies to claim her first win over a top-10 player.
"Actually, I don't know how I did it because I was 4-1 down in the third set, but my coach said to fight,"said Sabalenka.
Sabalenka will play Agnieszka Radwanska in Friday's final four after the Pole upset Latvian fifth seed Jelena Ostapenko 6-2, 7-5.
After saving a set-point at 5-4, Edmund rallied to steal the first set advantage in a 54-minute stand-off.~
However, after dropping the second set in a slump laced with errors, culminating in a double fault, the British number one's emotions overspilled in the third set.
The umpire awarded Kukushkin a controversial point at 2-0 on the Kazakh's serve when he challenged an out call that was reversed in his favour.
Edmund argued that the point should have been replayed because the shout~was 'on his racket'but because the 23-year-old~hit the ball into the net, the point was given and Kukushkin moved 3-0 clear.
The match was further delayed by Edmund requesting the tournament referee and could face a fine after he insulted him~as he~walked away.
From that point, Edmund capitulated as Kukushkin booked his place in the last four with two hours and 13 minutes on the clock.
Kukushkin will play German Mischa Zverev following his 6-3, 6-3 success over third-seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov.
Slovakian Lukas Lacko silenced the home crowd after he stopped Briton Cameron Norrie 6-3, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals.
He will meet Italy's fourth seed Marco Cecchinato, who recovered from a set down to conquer Australian John Millman 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.
In the other half of the woemn's draw, top seed Caroline Wozniacki had no problems in dealing with Australia's Ashleigh Barty as the Dane advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph.
Barty handed Wozniacki a tight~opening set with a double-fault but the 27-year-old Australian Open champion went on to dominate the second set and win in one hour and 19 minutes.
Wozniacki will face fourth seed Angelique Kerber in the penultimate round as the former world number one downed Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-3).

Bouchard qualifies for Wimbledon
In London Former Wimbledon finalist Eugenie Bouchard booked her place in next week's main draw by coming through the last round of qualifying on Thursday.
The Canadian defeated Mariana Duque-Marino of Colombia in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 at Roehampton.
Bouchard has slipped down the world rankings to 191 since losing to Petra Kvitova in the Centre Court final in 2014, with injuries blighting her career.
"I was really solid today, I was a little nervous before," the 24-year-old Bouchard told the BBC.
"I feel like I've earned (my main draw place) more than just being in by ranking so I'm proud of it and I got matches this week which is what I wanted because I've not played a lot, I've been injured, so that was the goal," added Bouchard,.
