The Ministry of the Interior (MoI), which on Tuesday issued special number plates through Metrash 2 service, has said there were some technical problems during the sale process that has sparked controversy on social media.
The MoI on its website said the ministry is constantly seeking to provide easy, distinct and advanced services to serve all segments of the society, citizens and residents.
The most important of the services provided by the ministry include passport and traffic related issues and over 150 other miscellaneous services for individuals and companies.
It said the sale of special numbers through Metrash 2 reflects the ministry's emphasis on transparency according to the measures announced in advance in local newspapers and MoI's social networking sites.
"All sales of the distinctive numbers on Tuesday were made through Metrash 2. The first purchase was made at 12:27 pm, while the last was at 12:44 pm. The ministry will further announce a new list of distinctive numbers and how to sell them," it said.
"Since 9:30 am, a large number of subscribers have been pressing Metrash 2 systems, which in turn prevented a large number of subscribers from accessing it," the MoI said.
It said,"All those who successfully completed the purchase through Metrash 2 were sent a text message confirming the purchase and some owners of those numbers have already installed it on their cars."
It said MoI stresses its keenness to provide services to the public through Metrash 2 in a smooth manner, with emphasis on continuously improving them to avoid any technical problems or interruption of the services.
