Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Rose Gottemoeller have stressed that Qatar is an important ally of NATO and it will play an important part in the alliance's future.
They praised the participation of Qatar in the 29th NATO summit in the Belgian capital Brussels.
In an interview with Al-Sharq newspaper, the Turkish foreign minister said Qatar is an important political and military ally and a balanced party in the equation of the international forces in confronting extremism and terrorism.
He said Qatar's joining of the alliance by supplying forces and equipment in Afghanistan to confront terrorist organisations and restore security and stability is an important and pivotal role on the agenda of the current summit.
The Turkish FM stressed that Qatar's armed forces have significant military expertise acquired through their participation and involvement in extensive training programmes with various forces around the world.
Qatari forces gathered outstanding skills and innovative plans by participating in these programmes, he noted.
He said these backgrounds made NATO member states welcome Qatar's role in the alliance and its participation in the most important and active fronts where terrorist groups are operating.
For her part, NATO Deputy Secretary General Rose Gottemoeller said Qatar is an ally and an active actor in NATO.
She said NATO members welcomed the presence of Qatar and its active involvement in the alliance because of its honourable record in the fight against terrorism.
