The football world's attention is set to shift from Russia to Qatar on Sunday as the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani officially receives the FIFA World Cup host's mantle in Moscow. Qatar will host the next edition of the tournament in four years' time.
The mantle will be handed over in a ceremony that will be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
According to AFP, they will be joined by several world leaders, including France's Emmanuel Macron and Croatian Prime Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic
In a separate meeting at the Kremlin, the Amir and Putin will discuss the means of strengthening the close relations between Qatar and Russia, as well as key regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The Amir will also attend the final of the ongoing edition of the World Cup between France and Croatia in Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, on Sunday.
