The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani officially received the mantle of hosting the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup from Russian President Vladimir Putin in the presence of FIFA chief Gianni Infantino at the Kremlin Palace on Sunday.
The Amir congratulated the Russian president and the people of Russia for the great success in organising the FIFA World Cup and looked forward to welcoming everyone to Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Amir thanked the friends in Russia, especially the organising committee of 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, for their cooperation with their Qatar counterparts, the organising committee of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Amir said they have benefited from the Russian experience and look forward to cooperation in organising the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Amir thanked FIFA chief Infantino for all his efforts and looked forward to work together for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Amir stressed the importance of 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar for all Arabs as mentioned previously in 2010 and welcomed the world to attend 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The Amir expressed hope for the success of the tournament in Qatar and stressed his trust in the Arab youth and friends who will be involved in its organisation.
At the opening of the ceremony, the Russian president expressed his pride in all the efforts made in organising 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, expressing the confidence that Qatar will succeed in organising a similar high-class World Cup.
"We are, of course, ready to share the experience we acquired in holding the World Cup this year," he said, pledging that Russia will do its best to promote sports and its role in uniting people and countries.
On his part, Infantino said,"It's so important that we are here today at the iconic Kremlin to pass the World Cup hosting rights from the organiser of the 2018 World Cup to the organiser of the 2022 World Cup."
He said this passion, emotion, love and a sense of unity felt in 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia will be transferred to Qatar in 2022.
The FIFA president said 2022 edition of the World Cup will leave a positive and vital impact as the 2018 edition did.
In his meeting with Putin, the Amir thanked the Russian President for the invitation.
The Amir affirmed that Qatar will work hard to organise a unique World Cup in 2022.
The Amir said a group of 200 people from Qatar are working with the team that helped organise the 2018 Russia World Cup and carrying out accompanying activities.
The Amir thanked the Russian president and people of Russia for giving Qataris the opportunity to exchange expertise.
The Amir said the Qatar 2022 World Cup is a championship for all Arabs, pointing out that the Arab region is going through a difficult time, stressing that it is a great nation and will overcome all differences.
