DOHA Centre for Media Freedom (DCMF) on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Qatar Olympic Academy to cooperate in the field of media training.
The MoU was signed by Abdulrahman bin Nasser al Obaidan, member of the Executive Committee and acting director of DCMF, and Saif al Noaimi, executive director of the Qatar Olympic Academy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Obaidan stressed the importance of partnerships with local organisations to cooperate and develop the sports media field.
He expressed his pleasure over signing the MoU and thanked the Qatar Olympic Academy for the important role it plays in promoting sports.
Obaidan said,"Sports in our country is no longer a matter of entertainment or luxury, it is now a national pride in which the government and the sports institutions devote a great deal of attention to it, especially with Qatar hosting the FIFA World Cup 2022, in addition to the development of sports infrastructure accompanying Qatar National Vision 2030."
"DCMF is looking forward to increasing the sports activities in addition to organising seminars and conferences that go around media issues, all of which focus on journalists and athletes," he added.
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Hanan al Yafei, content manager at DCMF, said in addition to the MoU, the centre has many other training courses on schedule, all aiming to promote and protect media around the world.
"We will be conducting several workshops on social media to promote its role and raise awareness on how to produce good media content. We also will be conducting a workshop in Somalia this September," she said.
Yafei added that the centre will receive a delegation from International Press Institution (IPI) to highlight the violations committed by the blockading countries in media against Qatar.
