THE Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has fined tyre shops on Salwa Road for three violations, including display and sale of expired tyres.
The violations were detected during a surprise inspection campaign on Salwa Road, targeting outlets dealing in sale and repair of car tyres in order to monitor the compliance of the dealers with Law number 8 of 2008 on consumer protection.
According to Article 6 of Law number 8 of 2008 on consumer protection and anti-commercial fraud, the sale, display and promotion of counterfeit and spoiled products is prohibited and violation can result in administrative closure and financial penalties ranging from QR3,000 to QR1 million.
A product is considered counterfeit or spoiled if it fails to meet the standards, or has expired.
The intensive and regular inspection campaigns come within the framework of the ministry's efforts to regulate markets and commercial activities across Qatar and to uncover and crack down on violations, counterfeit goods and substandard products.
The ministry stressed that it will not tolerate any violations of consumer protection law and its regulation, adding that violators will be referred to competent authorities for appropriate action against them.
The ministry has urged consumers to report violations or submit complaints and suggestions through its various channels.
