Qatar and Jordan have agreed to form a joint committee to follow up on the implementation of the directives of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to provide 10,000 job opportunities for Jordanians in Qatar.
In a joint press conference with Jordan's Minister of Labor Sameer Saeed Murad in Doha on Tuesday, Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa bin Saad al Jafali al Nuaimi said the committee will provide a database to facilitate the process for private and public sector entities in Qatar to choose suitable candidates who meet their needs.
Nuaimi said the job opportunities are available in different sectors such as health, education, finance, insurance, services, construction, agriculture and animal resources.
The committee's mission is to coordinate, follow up and ease the obstacles that jobseekers in Jordan may face and it will also establish a database that will be accessible for business owners to browse and find suitable candidates.
He said a total of 1,000 jobs for Jordanian youth will be provided until September through coordination and cooperation of the committee. The committee will intensify its efforts in the following phase to provide other jobs.
Nuaimi ruled out the involvement of third parties in the employment process.
Describing the relations between the two countries as excellent, the Jordanian labour minister said this kind of gesture is not strange from Qatar.
Murad said his meeting with Nuaimi focused on appropriate steps to implement the directives of the Amir to provide 10,000 jobs for Jordanians.
"We are talking about scientific, specialised, technical and engineering job opportunities," the minister said, adding that there will be a focus on 2022 World Cup projects and the specialties that they require.
Murad reaffirmed the keenness of both sides on a transparent and clear mechanism of employment between the two ministries so that no third party would exploit the needs of jobseekers.
"We want the Jordanian youth to find their jobs without being exploited in any way by a third party."
The Jordanian minister said the two labour ministries will not intervene in the recruitment of employees, with the matter being decided by employers.
He said,"We will only provide the personnel, while the employers will make the decision to choose among applicants based on the qualifications, experience and employers' needs."
Asked about the timeframe to conclude the process of filling the 10,000 jobs, the Jordanian minister said it is not associated with a specific time, but it was agreed between the two countries to provide at least 1,000 jobs in the next two months, with the remaining ones filled as soon as possible.
Murad pointed out that the Jordanian labour ministry will be the platform to receive Jordanian youth seeking jobs in Qatar.
He warned against resorting to any other parties regarding these jobs.
"We will announce everything in a transparent and clear manner for everyone," he said.
The Jordanian minister said the Qatari initiative will have a positive effect on reducing unemployment in Jordan, which stands now at 18.5 percent, noting that the government is working hard to provide appropriate job opportunities for all Jordanians.
