Qatar Cool has started laying out its district cooling network to serve seven stations on the Red Line of Qatar Rail's Doha Metro project between Legtaifiya and Al Bidda.
"Qatar Cool's foremost emphasis is on providing a sustainable energy solution to the country to uphold the future infrastructure. The implementation of district cooling to such projects as the railway network solidifies our commitment to the environment and the society," said its Chief Executive Yasser al Jaidah.
District cooling, he said, is often misrepresented or misunderstood."It is observed from a fiscal aspect where the real emphasis needs to be on the return on investment. Qatar has an ambition growth plan that surrounds the Qatar National Vision 2030. To achieve the best possible outcomes and ensure longevity of the new developments, alternative advanced technologies need to be applied, like district cooling."
Qatar Rail's Managing Director and CEO Abdulla Abdulaziz T al Subaie said:"Qatar Rail has always sought to work with the local suppliers and partners on every aspect of each of its projects.
"The future Doha Metro passengers' needs remain at the forefront of all our decision-making process — be it on station design and facilities or technical and functional elements that would secure their ultimate comfort throughout their metro experience."
The district cooling system being installed by Qatar Cool will not only help the stations withstand the hot weather during peak summers, but also contribute to protecting the environment by increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.
